8 Easy Ways to Overcome Procrastination While Learn A Tech Skill

When learning a skill, running an online business, or doing anything to develop yourself, procrastination is your biggest enemy.

And it's even worse when learning a Tech skill.

Sometimes, I find myself spending an entire day thinking about the things I should do; tutorials, puzzles, quizzes - instead of doing them.

But now I complete 80% of my tasks before the day is done. And I'm getting better by the day.

Here are 8 Steps I took to defeat procrastination. As long as you procrastinate, you'll never get to your desired goal in our tech world.

Procrastination is a habit, you can stop or kill habits overnight. You can only stop by practicing activities that help you avoid procrastination.

So I’m sharing 8 steps I took that gave me a better chance at defeating it.

Let's dive in.

1. Understand yourself first:

The key to winning in all aspects of life is mastering yourself.

  • Know the activities you love doing
  • Find the why behind your procrastination
  • Does it scare you?
  • Why does it scare you?
  • Why did I go into tech in the first place?

Hard question but you can find answers.

2. I started writing down my daily activities:

Stop aiming in the dark, you are likely to not hit the target. how to overcome procrastination in tech Plan your entire day, at least know what you are going to do, when, and how.

A task is much easier to attend to when it’s written down.

3. I set clear deadlines and durations for my activities:

For instance; “I will watch YouTube tutorials for an hour before 10 am”

Deadline–>10 am Work duration –>1 hr.

This help to avoid blurry finish lines.

Have a clear deadline and you’ll accomplish a lot.

don't wait until tomorrow to start

4. I understood the pillars of every activity.

This is a big game-changer.

Focus more on things that will make your task seem easy and fast.

I already know that if I do enough research, writing becomes easy & fast. Know what moves the needle, so your process becomes smooth.

5. I understood that result takes time.

Most things we procrastinate about are the ones that don’t have immediate rewards.

  • Hitting the gym
  • Building a brand
  • Reading self-development books

And learning a tech skill can be difficult because the rewards of your time and effort can and will take time.

Be process driven, not result-driven. Remember, results won’t come from procrastination too.

6. Learn to work through distractions:

I used to wait for the perfect time & environment. But sometimes you’ll never find the environment you want for optimal productivity.

You must create it.

  • Use ear muffs
  • Keep phones away
  • Go somewhere quiet
  • Learn to deep focus.

7. I found an accountability partner:

Anytime I have a task in mind or something I need to start, I tell my friend about it,

He was really good at gingering me into doing the things I needed to.

Felt like he was disrupting my peace at first,

But… when I got used to the whole setting, it just became so easy.

accountability partner Do well to have accountability partners or programs. You can’t fail with this.

8. I try to make work fun

Remember how you were happy cleaning because you had your headset on? Lol.

Reward yourself after every big task. After completing a tutorial, course, or project, reward yourself. The reward can be anything, even as little as a snack or a 15mins break.

This will trick your mind to bypass the friction involved in work.

That’s a wrap!
